Canada Graduate Research Scholarships (CGRS) / Similar Program. It’s a federal-level scholarship scheme, administered by Canada’s three major granting agencies: CIHR (health), NSERC (natural sciences & engineering), and SSHRC (social sciences & humanities). It is meant to support high-achieving students doing research-based graduate studies (Master’s or Doctorate), enabling them to focus more on research rather than working part-time. What's New / Change: The Canada Graduate Scholarship Master Program has been renamed " The Canada's Research Scholarship Program "- Master ( CGRS-M ). Value & Duration: The Master’s level scholarship (CGRS-M) is CAD $27,000 for 1 year (non-renewable). There is a Doctoral level version (CGRS-D), though the details (amount, duration) may vary depending on the agency and the student’s status. Eligibility Criteria Note : That each awarding agency (NSERC / SSHRC / CIHR) may have additional or slightly different criteria: You must be enrolled (or planning to enroll) in a qualifying research-based graduate program (Master’s or Doctoral) at a Canadian institution. The program must have a significant research component (thesis/dissertation or major research project) rather than being purely course-based. For certain competitions, there might be restrictions on how long you’ve already been in your graduate program. E.g., for doctoral funding, there are upper limits on how many months of full-time doctoral study you can have completed by the deadline. More awards have been added at the Master’s level. There is emphasis on equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), with some supplemental priority for underrepresented groups. How to Apply Applications are submitted via the Research Portal of the Canadian tri-agency system (CIHR/NSERC/SSHRC).
