NL Scholarship What is the NL Scholarship. It is a scholarship program financed by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, together with many Dutch universities and universities of applied sciences. The aim is to assist talented international students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) who want to do a Bachelor’s or Master’s programme in the Netherlands. What the Scholarship Covers The award is a one-time grant in the first year of study. It is not a full-tuition scholarship. It helps offset some costs, but you’ll need to cover tuition + living costs beyond what this gives. Typical amounts are €5,000; some universities may offer higher amounts (e.g. €10,000 or €15,000) depending on the faculty/institution Key Eligibility Criteria Here are the main requirements (may vary slightly by institution): Criterion What it means Nationality Must be from a non-EEA country. (If you have EEA passport, not eligible.) Prior study in NL You must not have obtained a degree from a university in the Netherlands; you also must not have been previously enrolled as a full-degree student there. Exchange participation may not count as “full degree student.” Programme type You must apply for a full-time Bachelor’s or Master’s programme at a participating Dutch institution. Tuition fee category You must be paying the institutional tuition fee, not the lower EU/EEA rate. English proficiency / academic record As with admissions, you need to meet the academic & language requirements of the programme you’re applying to. Strong grades are important. Also, some universities ask for a statement of financial resources. Not all universities or programmes in NL offer the NL Scholarship. You must check whether the programme you want is participating. Examples: Utrecht University offers it for certain international Master’s programmes. Radboud University gives up to 19 of these scholarships in “participating faculties” for Master’s programmes. Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences offers it for specific Bachelor and Master programmes (for example at Willem de Kooning Academy etc.). Amsterdam University of the Arts (AHK) also participates. Application Procedure & Deadlines You must apply to your chosen programme(s) first, and before or along with applying for the scholarship (if required). In many cases once you’ve submitted your application for admission, you’ll get an option or be prompted to fill in the NL Scholarship application. Deadlines depend on the university. Some common deadlines for NL Scholarship applications are around 1 February or 1 May of the year before study starts. Make sure to check the programme’s web page for its specific deadline, documents needed (motivation letter, financial plan, transcripts, etc.). ✅ Good NL / Related Scholarship Options for Pakistani Students University Scholarship Name: Utrecht University NL Scholarship for non-EEA students (Master’s) One-time grant of €5,000, €10,000 or €15,000 in the first year. Deadline: 1, February, 2026 (for programmes starting 1 Sept 2026) to apply for eligible master’s programmes. Must apply in relevant programme and then apply for NL Scholarship via their OSIRIS system. University of Twente NL Scholarship (Masters) ~€5,000 (one time, first year) for qualifying Master’s programme. Two rounds: Deadline: 1, Feb, 2026 and 1 May 2026 for programmes starting September 2026. Among other eligibility criteria: must be non-EU/EEA, have strong academic record. Radboud University NL Scholarship ~€5,000 (first year) for non-EEA students doing Master’s. Deadline: 31 Jan 2026 for the 2025-2026 academic year. Must be admitted to programme and apply via Radboud application system. Maastricht University NL-High Potential Scholarship Much more generous full tuition + monthly stipend; ~21 scholarships per year. Deadline: 1 February (for many programmes) for the upcoming intake.
